Okay, the summer issue is closed! We still have a ton of submissions to go through and all those will be considered for future issues. But for now, we proof and send out the contracts. Thank you to everyone who submitted and I truly wish we had enough money to publish a journal ten times the size. We could fill it easily.

The Summer Issue is coming along nicely. Tons of new work and even more authors. There are still some pages left though, so please submit. Also, don’t forget our ongoing poetry contest, judged by the one and only Rodney Jones.

Congrats to Jared Sexton. Jared’s story “It is Wide and it is Deep” which was originally published in Prime Mincer 1.1 will appear in his new collection An End to All Things forthcoming from Atticus Books. We couldn’t be prouder.

eBook versions!

In Uncategorized on March 29, 2011 at 6:37 pm

For those of you that are into the eBook craze, we’ve put up an electronic version of the journal up at smashwords (click the image for the link). It is available in ALL formats for $3.99. Additionally, you can download a sample for free! If you like what you see, please consider supporting the journal by purchasing the full version, either print or electronic.

The various electronic retailers (Apple’s iBookstore, BArnes and Noble, Amazon Kindle, Sony) should have the electronic version within a week or so for the same price. So, if you prefer to order through them it shouldn’t be much longer. Thanks for your interest and support.

An Update

In Uncategorized on March 17, 2011 at 9:48 pm

It has been a whirlwind around here. Prime Mincer 1.1 is currently at the printers (two weeks behind schedule) and we are currently reformatting for Kindle and iBooks versions. We received a huge number of submissions for the first issue, just over a thousand pieces. We were blown away by the number and quality of the work submitted. Honestly, we thought we would end up publishing our friends and fellow MFA’ers. Instead, this issue has work by editors of nationally known journals, Best Americanites and a couple first-timers. It just goes to show how much great work there is and how little space. We’ve added paypal buttons to the subscribe link so we can start distributing and we will be rolling out the new website shortly. Until then, here’s a list of the first issue authors:

David Cozy
Jared Yates Sexton
Rusty Barnes
Hobie Anthony
Eleanor Levine
Jackson Lassiter
John C. Mannone
JP Dancing Bear
Stephanie Dickinson
Portia Carryer
Sheila Hageman
Dustin J. Monk
Desiree Dighton
Michael Meyerhofer
Lisbeth Davidow
Bryan Estes
Paul Kavanagh
Shawn Mitchell
Wendy Taylor Carlisle
Grace Koong
Jon Tribble
J. Boyer
Kate Ristow
Amy Schreibman Walter

I’m heading out next to week to D.C. to spread the news about Prime Mincer and to take in some great panels. Please, stop and say hello if we run into each other.

A new cover and thanks

It’s amazing how many submissions we have received for the first issue of Prime Mincer. At last count, we had just over four hundred individual submissions. We are working hard to respond to each submission in a timely manner and it is an honor to read your work. Abby and I are blown away by the quality and the volume of work we are receiving. It just goes to show how much incredible writing is out there and how little space we have to publish. Thank you to everyone who has submitted  and please, if you haven’t, consider submitting today.

Also, we have a new cover for the spring issue. Eric Robinson is a fine, fine, photographer and he jumped out of his comfort zone when we gave him the task of providing us with a spring-themed cover. We think he did just fine.
